Welcome

About Me

As an ordained pastor in the United Church of Christ, I have a passion for music that connects people to each other, to God, and to their sense of calling to make a difference in the world.

This site gives an overview of my hymns so you can find resources that add depth and beauty to your congregation’s worship, your personal spiritual journey, or both! Thank you for taking the time to look around.

If you’re ready to buy sheet music for a song, here’s where you go.

Or, for more about my song collection, The New Blugrass Hymnal, here’s your handy link.

I live in southwest Baltimore with my wife Heather and our kid August. Some of my favorite writers include Anne Lamott, Brian McLaren, and Walter Brueggemann, and hymn writers Ruth Duck, Marty Haugen, Michael Gungor and Christopher Grundy. Since 2019 I have been the Community Missioner at Church on the Square, a cooperative effort of the ELCA and the Episcopal Church. Through my work, I support the growth of healthy spiritual community. In March 2025, I also became the Worship Associate at Kittamaqundi Community in Columbia.

What’s Here

I write mostly in the bluegrass/Americana tradition, combining singability with thoughtful, inclusive and progressive lyrics that incorporate Biblical imagery. This comes out of my love for the Bible and its complicated, compelling, and sometimes odd take on the world. My hope for my hymns is that they will help people connect to each other in community and to a deeper sense of purpose and meaning.

Thank you!
